at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
Priced at £299 + vat pp
Our evening with the Bard starts with a private tour of The Globe Theatre, after it has closed to the public. Your historian and Tour guide will take you on a fascinating tour of this famous open-air playhouse where you will discover the exhibition on the life of William Shakespeare, the London where he lived and the theatre for which he wrote so many timeless plays. They will regale you with stories about the extravagant costumes and musical instruments used over the centuries.
The Globe Theatre was not only one of most famous playhouse’s of all time, but the play house where Shakespeare performed many of his greatest plays. Originally built it was built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain’s men, it was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613.
Now the lovingly recreated Globe Theatre is a magnificent feature on London’s South Bank skyline. The Globe stands a few hundred yards from its original site. The rebuilding of the iconic building stems from the founding of the Shakespeare’s Globe Trust in 1970 by the pioneering American actor and director Sam Wanamaker, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre eventually opened in 1997.
After the tour we will adjourn to the Swan at the Globe for our private dining experience with bite size scenes celebrating Shakespeare between courses from our Shakespeare Players. Don’t worry though this is Shakespeare at its funniest. We will show you Shakespeare’s best insults, arguments and the entire plot of ‘Hamlet’ in less than ten minutes! Plus an entertaining and informative trip through the language of Shakespeare, showing just how many of his phrases we still use today.
The backdrop of St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Thames and, of course, the Globe Theatre, in our private top floor Balcony room will be the perfect setting for dinner.
